Graduate Students

Funding for graduate students is an ongoing process. If you are interested in working under Dr. Luchies' supervision for your MS or PhD, feel free to contact him. Either available data can be analyzed, or new experiments can be designed.

Undergraduate Students

If you are interested in volunteering or being part of the lab, please contact Dr. Luchies. You can either propose a new project, or assist one of the graduate students on one of their projects. Depending on the level commitment you choose, you can receive credit for your work.

Summer Camp: Project Discovery (2015-2019)

The Biodynamics Laboratory has had the privilege of leading the Project Discovery Summer Camp for high school students over the last three years. The summer camp consists of one week of intensive learning in the area of Mechanical Engineering through experiments, robotics (LabVIEW and Lego Mindstorm), and visits to state-of-the-art laboratories. Leading the summer camps have allowed us to encourage high school students to pursue an engineering degree at KU or other institution.

Summer Camp: Who Knew? (2017)

We had the opportunity to be part of one of the days of the Summer Camp Who Knew which hosts middle school students. The goal of our session was to show a mechanical engineering principle, and how it is applied in biomechanics. With that said, the Biodynamics Laboratory explained the students the principles of impulse through a simple experiment, and then it was discussed how our human body is constantly reducing the impact with the ground by moving multiple joints (ex. walking, or jumping).
